Middle School

Grades 6-8 (Age: 11-13)

” Where students grow in wisdom, resilience, and purpose. “

Middle school is a time of exploration and growth. At BCCI, students refine their critical thinking skills, develop strong moral character, and engage with the world through a biblical lens. They build confidence as they discover their unique role in God’s greater story.

HOLISTIC APPROACH & INTEGRATION OF VALUES

BCCI’s approach to education goes beyond just academics. By integrating a God-centered approach with the curriculum, we cultivate a strong moral foundation that complements academic excellence. This leads to increased motivation, a sense of purpose, and a stronger sense of responsibility in students. This focus on both character and academics creates a holistic educational experience. Students develop the knowledge and skills needed for success in high school and beyond, while also nurturing their moral compass. Ultimately, this combination prepares them to become not only academically successful but also responsible and ethical citizens, the future leaders of our communities.

CURRICULUM

A Biblically-Integrated Curriculum

At BCCI, we provide an international curriculum encompassing a wide range of subjects while integrating biblical principles into the learning experience based on US Common Core standards. Our aim is to equip our students with the necessary tools and knowledge to excel in high school, lay a solid foundation for studying at international universities and career preparedness, and make a meaningful impact on the world as a Christ-centered institution.

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

The primary language of instruction is English. Additionally, students learn Thai and Chinese, becoming fluent in both languages.

FIELD TRIPS

At BCCI Middle School, we take learning beyond the classroom walls! We believe field trips are an essential part of the curriculum, not just for fun, but to bring concepts to life. Imagine dissecting an organism in a science lab or exploring historical artifacts on a museum visit! These hands-on experiences solidify what students are learning in class, making it more engaging and memorable. Stepping outside the classroom allows them to make real-world connections to the subject matter, fostering a deeper understanding. Field trips also break up the routine, adding excitement that boosts student motivation and participation back in class.

CHAPEL

Each Tuesday afternoon, from 15:30 to 16:00, our secondary students assemble for our weekly chapel program. Here, they engage with biblical teachings, nurturing their spiritual connection with God. Through these gatherings, our students develop a passion for prayer and delve into biblical study, finding inspiration in the themes explored. These chapel sessions play a significant role in shaping our students’ religious beliefs and spiritual journey, influencing their lives in profound ways.

Curriculum Overview

At BCCI, our middle school program (Grades 6–8) equips students to grow academically, spiritually, and socially. We integrate a biblical worldview across all subjects while encouraging critical thinking, leadership, and intercultural understanding. Each subject supports the school’s mission to develop students who live with purpose, reflect God’s character, pursue excellence, and serve others.

Students explore the grand narrative of Scripture—creation, fall, redemption, and restoration—while applying biblical truths to everyday life. They reflect on their identity in Christ, engage in discussions, and grow in spiritual maturity and service.

Students read a variety of world literature, including novels, poetry, nonfiction, and plays, to build comprehension, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. Featured titles such as Frindle, A Wrinkle in Time, Nimona, Wonder, and The Phantom Tollbooth help students explore themes of identity, creativity, and compassion. Writing instruction includes essays, creative stories, and research projects that develop clear communication and literary analysis skills.

Middle school math includes Grade 6 Math, Grade 7 Pre-Algebra, and Grade 8 Algebra I. Students develop mathematical reasoning, problem-solving strategies, and strong foundational skills to prepare for higher-level math.

Students investigate the world through hands-on labs, projects, and experiments. Topics include general science (Grade 6), life and physical sciences (Grade 7), and space and applied sciences (Grade 8). Faith integration encourages students to see God’s design in creation.

Students study world history in Grades 6 and 7, followed by world geography in Grade 8. They learn to analyze events from multiple perspectives, understand global connections, and appreciate diverse cultures and contributions.

Language classes are divided into native and non-native tracks.

  • Native Chinese: Students strengthen reading, writing, and speaking skills through classical Chinese and global literature. Lessons include worldview discussions, creative projects, and literary analysis. Texts such as Animal Farm, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and The Chronicles of Narnia are studied alongside Chinese classics and modern works, all from a biblical perspective. Signature activities include speeches, poetry composition and recitation, debates, art projects, and reflective writing.
  • Non-Native Chinese: The curriculum builds on basic Chinese language skills and focuses on improving conversational and written proficiency for non-native speakers. Students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities at an intermediate level (CEFR A2 to B1, or HSK 3 to 4) to communicate effectively in Chinese. The curriculum also helps students gain cultural understanding and apply language skills in real-life situations.
  • Native Thai: This course follows the Thai Ministry of Education (MOE) curriculum, students study Thai literature, poetry, grammar, and cultural traditions. Lessons include creative writing, critical thinking, and moral reflection. They explore Thai identity and values through both historical and biblical perspectives, learning to communicate with clarity, respect, and cultural understanding.
  • Non-Native Thai: Thai Language (Non-Native Speakers) This course helps students build everyday communication skills in Thai through vocabulary, sentence structure, and grammar practice. Lessons focus on real-life topics such as travel, shopping, and asking for directions. Students learn to use compound nouns, descriptive sentences, and modal verbs, developing greater confidence in both spoken and written Thai.

Through choir and visual art, students grow in creativity while reflecting God’s beauty and truth. In choir, students build vocal technique, perform in harmony, and explore music from diverse cultures. In art, students develop drawing and painting skills, study key artistic principles, and express ideas through imaginative and observational projects rooted in biblical values.

Students develop physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy habits through weekly sports, games, and structured workouts. Monthly fitness assessments track individual progress and encourage personal growth. The program promotes lifelong wellness in a supportive and active environment.

Students build digital literacy through units on Digital Citizenship, Google Workspace, Computer Science (Code.org), and Design Thinking. They develop skills in typing, coding, collaboration, and responsible technology use to prepare for academic and real-world success.

CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND GROWTH

At BCCI Middle School, we believe in fostering a love of learning that extends beyond textbooks. Our curriculum is designed to engage students, challenge them to think critically, and develop a strong foundation for future success. We achieve this through a balanced approach that emphasizes both formative and summative assessments.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS

  • Class Participation (More Than Just Raising Hands): We encourage active participation that goes beyond simply raising hands. Students will be expected to build on each other’s ideas, ask thoughtful questions, and participate in group discussions.
  • Homework Completion: Building Independence and Reinforcement: Regular homework assignments will reinforce key concepts covered in class and develop independent learning skills. Time will be given in class for students to ask questions and clarify any doubts before tackling homework assignments.
  • Quick Quizzes: Focused Checks on Key Concepts: Short, frequent quizzes will be used throughout units to gauge understanding of essential concepts before moving on. These quizzes might involve multiple-choice questions, matching activities, or brief written explanations.
  • Practice Activities: Sharpening Skills and Building Confidence: Regular practice activities like problem sets, lab experiments, or writing exercises will be used to solidify understanding and build essential skills. These activities provide opportunities for students to receive feedback and improve their work before summative assessments.
  • Learning Logs/Journals: Reflecting on the Learning Journey: Regular journaling or learning log entries will allow students to reflect on what they’ve learned, identify areas for improvement, and track their progress throughout the year.
  • Project-Based Learning: Bringing Learning to Life: Students will have opportunities to delve deeper into topics through individual or group projects. These projects can involve research, creative presentations, building models, or creating multimedia presentations. Project-based learning allows students to demonstrate their understanding in a variety of ways and fosters collaboration and communication skills.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS

    • Unit/Term Exams: Comprehensive Assessments of Knowledge: At the end of each unit or term, students will take comprehensive exams that cover all the main concepts and skills learned. These exams might include a variety of question formats like essays, short answer questions, problem-solving tasks, or practical demonstrations.
    • Standardized Testing: Benchmarking Progress (NWEA MAP Testing): Students will participate in standardized assessments like the NWEA MAP Test to compare their performance to national benchmarks. These tests provide valuable insights into student strengths and weaknesses, allowing us to tailor our instruction accordingly.
    • Beyond Expectations: Nurturing Curiosity and Expanding Horizons: Students who consistently demonstrate a strong understanding will be challenged with enrichment activities. These activities might involve independent research projects, participating in academic competitions, or exploring advanced topics related to the curriculum. Our goal is to nurture their curiosity, provide opportunities for deeper exploration, and prepare them for the academic challenges of high school.

By combining a variety of engaging assessments with a focus on both foundational knowledge and critical thinking skills, BCCI Middle School equips students for success in high school and beyond.
